AGRI TECHNOLOGY INTERVIEW: “Since land is becoming scarce and population is escalating fast, we need to emulate mechanised farming that will help us achieve maximum food production in consideration to land size”

1.    Let’s start with highlights for your organisation during the last 12 months.
We have been trying to keep the agricultural division up and about to stay afloat within the competition that seems stiff by engaging with financial institutions to partner with us in offering finance to clients across board so that sales can be realized constantly.

2.    What makes your products and services competitive in the agri sector?
SAME Tractors offer a wide range of models for sale in the market and offer unique models meant for specialized farming activities like coffee spraying.

3.    Where in Africa are you active? How important is Kenya and the region as a market for you?
We have branches and dealership networks in Kenya. Kenya serves as a regional contact point for enquiries regarding our products within East and Central Africa.

4.    What in your view are the main challenges to the sector in the region?
The main challenges in the sector are that most of the customers buying agricultural equipment, do not buy value for their money. Rather they end up purchasing equipment based on final prices offered without considering quality, durability or after sales as competition has made it vulnerable to an uninformed click of customers just to be doing purchases haphazardly. This has seen this sector look like a damp port for agricultural equipment.

Since land is becoming scarce and population is escalating fast, we need to emulate mechanised farming, sighting conservation agriculture, agro irrigation amongst other available technology at hand that will help us achieve maximum food production in consideration to land size.

More of these kinds of expo trade fairs need to be carried out regularly so that they can be used as a stepping pillar for farmers and people involved in agri business sector to be able to meet and exchange notes on the way forward with the agricultural sector worldwide.
